State Student Identifier

According to the current legislation, minors under the age of 14 are not required to have a national identity document, which means that in the educational stages prior to this age the identification cannot be made based on a national identification document.

In order to improve the management of student mobility within the national territory, the State Student Identifier system (Identificador Estatal de Alumno o IdEA) was designed.

It's a system that allows the creation, allocation and management of a student national identifier through the use of the interoperability architecture.

Its format was created using an algorithm that generates an identifier based on students' basic information; this allows the identification and elimination of potential duplication.

The service is developed according to the following sequence:

  1. School provide information. In this first stage, schools collect and send the minimum necessary information about students; this is standardized according to a specific format in order to generate the identifier for a certain student.
  2. The identifier is validated and generated. After analysing and validating the data received, the Node generates an identifier and checks whether the student has previously been assigned an identifier.
  3. Communication of Node's results. The Node informs the education centres of origin the result of the identifier generation. Where necessary, it will request human intervention so as to decide if an identifier has already been assigned to a student or if it is a new student.
  4. Storage of the identifier. The Node stores the identifier allocation centrally.
